Fat Joe, Joseph Cartagena, started his career with a slow start, as he was the only latino (Puerto Rican/Cuban) rap artist on the east coast. Joe was born and raised in the Bronx, famous for its crime-ridden streets. He really had to work to become the huge success he is today. After his first album didn't sell as many records as he had hoped, Joe teamed up with Big Pun for his second album, and Big Pun proved to be his best asset. Joe produced Big Pun's first album, which was the first ever by a latino artist to go multi-platinum! His success continued, even after the tragic death of his partner, Big Pun, because he formed the Terror Squad. The Terror Squad teamed up to produce Joe's first number one single, "Lean Back," and the rest is history. Although he has been working at it for ten years, Joe has made his mark on music, film, clothing and urban culture! He continues to spend each year making guest appearances, so you never know where you'll find him next!
